Quilting is a passion of mine. When I took up quilting, I didn't realize how much I would love it and how therapeutic it is. I usually design quilts as I go, without following a pattern. My focus is to express myself in a unique way, combining my favorite design elements of color, contrast, pattern, and texture.
When I designed the quilt in this picture, my original vision was to create a color study. One side of the quilt is dedicated to color, and the other side is dedicated to negative space. I love the contrast in this design and how one side balances out the other.
Historically, quilting has been passed down through the generations in my family for over 100 years. Little did I know what ideas would be sparked, when I inherited a collection of antique quilts when my mother died. The wonderful, positive influence they have had on my life and the joy I have had in designing and creating my own quilts, has been an amazing journey. And I am always discovering more, every day. I especially love creating quilts as gifts and spreading my creativity and joy, as a part of me is inherently embedded in each quilt.
